OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

WHAT IS OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY?

Occupational Therapy focuses on providing an individual with the skills that allow them to function in the world around them. Most commonly our clients receive occupational therapy for sensory processing/integration disorders, learning disabilities, developmental delays, ADHD, Autism, gross motor and fine motor delays, social skills, coordination, attention, handwriting and motor skills.

Our occupational therapists evaluate your child as a whole, from behavioral to physical needs and everything in between with the goal of being able to meet the daily roles of childhood: play, school and self-help skills.  Services are tailored to address the specific needs of your child and focus on providing a supportive, fun and interactive environment.

 BENEFITS OF OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

We should all aspire to experience life to the fullest through the things we enjoy to do everyday whether it be at school, at home, at work, or out in the community. A toddler climbs the ladder at a playground to go down a slide. A preschooler puts on his shoes to get ready for a playdate. A kindergartner begins to copy their name and put a puzzle together. A group of school age children play with their peers, attend parties with their friends and families. A young adolescent transitions into the next steps of adulthood preparing to begin college, an adult vocational program, or enter the workforce. These fulfilling activities require all of us a variety of skills that are at the core of occupational therapy including…

  • Attention and focus (completing a full task without distractions)

  • Cognitive/behavioral skills (following directions, sitting still, and taking turns)

  • Gross motor skills (running, catching, and throwing)

  • Fine motor skills (cutting, grasping, and manipulating small objects)

  • Visual motor skills (handwriting, building, putting puzzles together, and ball skills)

  • Self-care skills (dressing and feeding)

  • Coordination, strength, balance and bike riding

  • Social/emotional skills (playing with peers and interacting appropriately)
